Pregnancy massage and bodywork can help you meet the coming changes during your pregnancy. The focus for the first trimester is general relaxation, postural awareness, diaphragmatic breathing, and proper pregnancy abdominal exercises. ![]() The second trimester includes the above with more focus on decreasing pain and increasing muscular relaxation of those areas most stressed in pregnancy: low back, neck, hips, and legs. The
third trimester includes the above with focus on the pelvis to relieve
pelvic congestion, relieve possible pelvic muscular and joint strain,
body awareness exercises to prepare for birth, and labor massage
instruction. Positioning is
important for the comfort and well being of you and your baby during
each session through out the changes of your pregnancy. Different
positions along with supportive pillows are used to create this much
needed comfort. Sessions can begin at any time during your pregnancy,
but you may gain more benefits with sessions through out your pregnancy
and postpartum period. |
Labor Massage Instruction Labor massage techniques are introduced during your last trimester and are taught to you and your labor partner. This includes massage techniques to help relieve labor pain, visualization and meditative methods to support a productive labor, and identification of common areas of muscle tension and how to release them to create a more productive labor. Reflexive zone therapy is also taught for general relaxation, to increase productivity of contractions, and to provide back and labor pain relief. |
Postpartum Massage & Bodywork Beyond general relaxation, postpartum techniques can aid in healing the skin, connective tissue, and muscles of the abdomen. With the strain to the pelvis through out pregnancy and labor, techniques are also included to restore balance to the pelvis and further increase your postural awareness with your newborn. This is a great period of transition and your care now is just as important as during your pregnancy. |
